Douglas Good

March 29, 1952 — April 29, 2014

Creig “Douglas” Good

Douglas Good, 62 of the Manitoba Developmental Centre died peacefully with his family by his side at the Portage and District General Hospital on April 29, 2014.

Doug was born at Concordia Hospital in Winnipeg, MB on March 29, 1952.  His early years were spent in foster care and at age six years he moved to the MDC where he resided until his passing.

Throughout his life, Douglas touched so many with his unforgettable smile and wit.  In his wisdom, he cheerfully accepted everything and everyone as they were, and approached all things with courage, optimism and confidence.  He will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor and love of a good joke.  Doug reached out to others in sincere friendship, he truly valued his friends one and all.  He gave every person he met all that he had to give.  Doug patiently developed and taught his unique language of signs and gestures to communicate his thoughts and used it along with his warm eyes to make his intelligence known.   He taught us not to dwell on our limitations but rather our capabilities and strengths, and above all else to laugh and enjoy the little things and moments in our lives.

Doug leaves to mourn his passing many friends and adopted family, too numerous to list, all of us richer for having known him.  He will be sorely missed.  We take comfort that he is in the arms of the angels and that he is with his old buddy Frannie once again.

A celebration of Doug’s life will be held on Thursday, May 8, 2014 at the Aspen Centre Chapel at the Manitoba Developmental Centre at 1:30 pm.  All of Doug’s friends are welcome.

As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Doug’s memory to the Lake Manitoba Camp Legacy Inc., P.O. Box 1532, Portage la Prairie, MB, R1N 3P5.

God saw you getting tired,

A cure was not to be.

So He wrapped his arms around you

And whispered “come to me”

You didn’t deserve what you went through,

So He gave you a rest.

God’s garden must be beautiful,

He only takes the best.

And when I saw you sleeping

So peaceful, free from pain.

I couldn’t wish you back

To suffer that again.

A tree will be planted in memory and cared for by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel.
