Dorothy Marie Thompson

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, sister-in-law and aunt, Dorothy Thompson, on Tuesday, September 1, 2015, the Portage District General Hospital at the age of 82 years.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband Wes in 2002; her parents Nick and Lil Boyachek and brother Frank.  Left to cherish her memory are her children Sheila (John), Stewart (Heather), Lisa (Bob); sisters Betty (Gus) Finnson and Irene Brown; brother Bob (Ilien); grandchildren Shawn, Stacey, Randi, Reid; great grandchildren McKayla and Tegan.  Also many nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was born March 5, 1933 and raised on a farm in the South Ridge vicinity south of Portage.  She attended South Ridge School, Wingham and finished her schooling at Portage Collegiate.

Mom was a quiet person; family was most important in her life and treasured time with family at different occasions.

She married Wes Thompson in 1956 and celebrated 46 years together.  The farmed in the Beaver District and became his partner in life.  After retirement they spent 15 winters in Arizona as snow birds.  There, they met many friends which she still kept in touch with.  Besides going away for the winter she travelled from West to East coasts and also enjoyed a cruise to Alaska.

The family would like to sincerely thank all the staff of the Portage District General Hospital.  A special thanks to Shelly Brown and Dr. Quasada.

A private family graveside service will be held at Beaver Cemetery.  Friends and family are invited to a celebration of her life at Trinity United Church, lower auditorium, on Thursday, September 10, 2015 at 2:00 pm.
