Dorothy Joan Mills

On February 22nd, 2010 with loved ones by her side, Dorothy Mills passed peacefully away into the arms of her Savior whom she adored.

She is predeceased by her father, John Foster and brother Gary Foster. She is survived by her husband Gene Mills and son Kevin a" She is also survived by her mother, Mary Rempel and sisters, Susan Somerset, Sharon Schoder, Carol Kreviazuk, and many nieces and nephews.

Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on July 9th, Dorothy's life resembled one of servitude, love, wonderment, and faithfulness. After attending Gordon Bell High School in Winnipeg, Dorothy relocated to the small and quaint Ukrainian town of Sundown, Manitoba where she lived with her mother for a time. During this stint, Dorothy also worked as an office secretary with Natural Resources in Piney, Manitoba for a number of years.

It would be later in 1980, where Dorothy would meet the love of her life at Strawberry Lake Christian Retreat, in Omega, Minnesota. After two years of courting and dating, Dorothy would marry Gene Mills and begin a new life. Both Dorothy and Gene served as youth pastors at Strawberry Lake Christian Retreat before taking their first pastorate in Portage La Prairie in the fall 1982. Living Word Chapel still stands at the intersection of 5th St. and Lorne and is a reminder of Dorothy's servitude and devotion to the ministry in Portage La Prairie.

Later in 1985 Dorothy bore her only son and child, Kevin in Winnipeg, Manitoba. It would only be one year later before Dorothy, Gene, and new son Kevin would begin traveling across Western Canada and the United States as evangelists. Her and her family would spend the next fifteen-years traveling tens-of-thousands of miles across North America ministering, speaking, and changing lives. Settling briefly in Jacksonville, Florida in 2000/2001,

Dorothy would later be diagnosed with Primary Biliary Sclerosis in September of 2001 in Winnipeg. Upon the diagnosis, Dorothy, Gene, and Kevin returned to Portage La Prairie and began Prairie Community Church in 2002. Over the next several years the ravages of a horrible disease would slowly deteriorate her health. She was placed on the Liver Transplant list in London, ON in 2007 and was actually called in for the transplant two weeks prior to her death. Unfortunately, it was not meant to be and the donor liver was not suitable. Even though her frequent stays in the Health Science Centre of Winnipeg for the last three years were terribly traumatic and painful she found solace and incredible care under the hand of her specialist Dr. Gerald Minuk and the beloved nurses and U.A. staff of D4.

The Memorial Service for Dorothy Mills will be held Friday, February 26th at the William Glesby Centre at 1pm . A private interment will follow the service at Chapel Lawn Cemetery in Winnipeg.

As an expression of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made to the pre-existent "Dorothy Mills Emergency Fund" at the Portage Credit Union to offset funeral expenses. Gene and Kevin wish to express their deepest gratitude for the emotional, financial, and spiritual support of the surrounding community.

A tree will be planted in memory and cared for by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel. www.mckenziesportagefuneralchapel.com 857-4021
