Mom held a special place in her heart for her Sister-in-law Beatrice Brown and 13 nieces and nephews and her dear friend Winnie McDonald.
Dorothy was born on July 12, 1921 youngest child of Bertha and Edward James Guinn. She attended school in Portage la Prairie and later Business College in Winnipeg. Dorothy began employment with the Bank of Montreal and worked until her marriage to Graham McLachlan in 1944. Dorothy and Graham lived at the McLachlan farm near Bagot until they moved to their new home, built by Dad, in 1956.
After Dad's sudden death in 1965, the caring and support offered by her sister Ruth and brother Murray helped Mom carry on through a very difficult time. Many often wondered how on earth Dot ever raised those "5" girls on her own. Mom returned to the workforce and began employment with CIBC where she made many lifelong friendships. She continued to work for CIBC until her retirement in 1986.
Mom was a very independent woman and thought nothing of loading up her car with her children and driving to the west coast or to Ontario or Quebec for summer holidays. We enjoyed many trips to Grand Forks to shop and visit family. She often visited her daughters in Ontario.Mom was also lucky enough to travel to Hawaii and also Texas with her sister Ruth and a special trip to Florida with Lois.
One of Mom's favorite places to be was sitting on a sand bar at Delta. Mom had been able to enjoy every summer at Delta Beach from the age of three when her parents bought their cottage at 32 West. That same property became her daughter Brenda's home and so Mom could still enjoy Delta. We will treasure our memories of our time spent at the lake with Mom / Nana.Mom liked to spend her spare time knitting, making her famous fudge and toffee.
We will miss our mom dearly she was our best friend. Rest in peace Dot.
As per Mom's wishes there will be no formal funeral service, private family interment will take place at Hillside Cemetery at a later date.
We wish to thank the staff of Douglas Campbell Lodge for their compassionate care given to our Mom and support given to our family.
