Peacefully with her family at her side, Doris Sponarski passed away on Sunday, March 28, 2010 in the Portage District General Hospital at the age of 88 years.

She was predeceased by her husband Joseph, parents Thomas and Ella Spooner and siblings Thomas Spooner, Helen Spooner, Edwin Spooner, Margaret Atkin, Audrey Campbell, Kathleen McBride and Dorothy Curran. Left to cherish her memory are her son Tom Sponarski of Edmonton AB with grandchildren Carly, John and Jack Sponarski; son Larry (Marlene) Sponarski of Portage la Prairie with grandchildren Cody and Jay Sponarski; daughter Carol (Dan) Brown of Macdonald with grandchildren Kris Brown (Kaili Stewart), Kaili Brown and Chris Charney, Kasey Brown ( Kendra Thomson), and Kaitlynd Brown; daughter Joanne (Marlo) Mynott of Macdonald with grandchildren Braydan Mynott (Jasmine Weztluk), Jace Mynott (Kimmie Halwas), and Ryley Mynott (Amanda Sandney); daughter-in-law Judi Sponarski of Richmond BC; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Pat and Arlysse Otway of Thunder Bay Ont; brother-in-law Leo Fitzmaurice of Kingston Ont; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Mom was born in her parents home at 654 Fleet Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba on February 22, 1922. She attended St. Ignatius School and St Mary's Academy. While living in Rainy River Ont, Mom met the love of her life Joe Sponarski. Mom and dad were married on May 7, 1947 in Rainy River Ont. When Mom and dad were first married they lived on a houseboat in Sioux Narrows Ont. Dad had a fly-in fishing business in the summer. A few years later he started to work for Beaver Lumber and they resided in Atikokan Ont, Benito MB, Sioux Lookout Ont and finally in Portage la Prairie MB. Mom worked for the Hobby Centre for many years. She volunteered her time with the Fort la Reine Museum and was a member of CWL and Portage Golf and Curling Clubs. Mom enjoyed ceramics, knitting, traveling and summers at Lake of the Woods. Her absolute favourite times were spent with her family and her greatest love was each one of her grandchildren. As her children, how lucky we were to have a life full of love, laughter and memories.

Prayers will take place at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at 7:00 pm led by Deacon Bill Parrack. Funeral Service will be held at Good Shepherd Roman Catholic Church on Wednesday morning, March 31, 2010 at 11:00 am with Father Eric Giddins. Interment is to follow at Hillside Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Doris's memory to the PCU Centre, City of Portage la Prairie, 97 Sask. Ave.E, Portage la Prairie, MB, R1N OL8 or to a charity of your choice.
