On Monday, April 23, 2012 at the Portage District General Hospital Doris Ruby Elgert passed away at the age of 81 years.

Mom was born on February 21, 1931, daughter of Elsie and Victor Rands of Lavenham, Manitoba where she was raised and received part of her education. She then moved to Portage with her parents in 1942 and finished her education in Portage. After finishing school she was employed at the Manitoba Telephone System from 1948 to 1955. In 1955 she married David Elgert and they farmed at MacDonald until 1984 when they moved into Portage and their son Robert took over farming. Mom loved her flowers and gardening in her younger years and enjoyed helping out with the work at the farm.

Mom was predeceased by her parents, husband David in 1995 and son Robert in 2005 and leaves one son Brian (Judy) and 3 precious grandchildren, David, Vicky and Dale of Neepawa MB, step-daughter Karen (Graham) Fuchs and their family. Also surviving are brother-in-law Clayton of Surrey,BC, sister Bea Caldwell of Brandon, MB, brother Vernon (Bea) of Winnipeg and several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Doris's life will be held on Friday, April 27, 2012 at 11:00 am at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel led by Rev. Beth Kerr. Interment will take place at Hillside Cemetery
