Donna Mae Matthies

After a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease, Donna Mae Matthies passed away peacefully on June 25, 2024, at the age of 70 years old.

Donna leaves behind her sons Chad (Stacey) and Cody (Clare), four beautiful grandchildren (Olivia, Penelope, Clover, and Ronan), brothers Fred (Julie) and Pat, and several loyal friends and family members. She is predeceased by her partner, Brent Logan, and her parents.

Donna's legacy extends beyond her infectious smile and laughter. Donna was one of those people who could truly light up a room. Everyone who knew her loved her. She was a dedicated community servant, spending years as an educational assistant at La Verendrye School and a health care aid at Lions Prairie Manor in Portage La Prairie. Her hard work and commitment to others will always be remembered.

Before Alzheimer's took her mind, Donna had a deep love for life. She adored animals, especially her golden retriever Hershey, enjoyed spending time with her friends and family, and loved playing games. If you visited Donna, you couldn't leave without being roped into a quick game of cribbage! She embraced every holiday enthusiastically with many thoughtful traditions and made sure to make everyone around her feel cherished and loved.

Despite her declining health over the years, she never lost her spirit and kindness. You couldn't help but smile around her, and holding her hand brought a sense of peace. She made a lasting impression on the staff and all the caregivers she met over the years. 

Donna's family would like to express gratitude for the attentive care she received at Lions Prairie Manor. They have provided exceptional care over the years, and for that, we are forever grateful.

Donna's private service will be held at a later date. 

 As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made in Donna's name to Lions Prairie Manor Foundation Inc, 24 - 9th Street NE, Portage la Prairie, MB, R1N 3V4 or the Alzheimer's Society of Manitoba, 40 Royal Road North, Portage la Prairie MB R1N 1V1.
