Donn Wayne Leslie
Peacefully on Saturday, June 25th 2011 in Saint Boniface Hospital with his family at his side, Donn Wayne Leslie passed away at the age of 73 years.
Donn will be lovingly remembered by his wife Patricia of 52 years; children Lori (Barrie)Tully, Deanne (Dale) McLeod, Karen Leslie; granddaughters Nicole McLeod, Allyssa
McLeod, Heather McLeod, and Megan Tully, also, many extended family members and friends. He is predeceased by his parents George and Adelaide Leslie.
Donn was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba September 15th, 1937. He lived all of his life on
the family farm at Mill Creek. He attended Mill Creek School. He accomplished many
things in his lifetime. He left school to help his Dad on the farm. He also worked for
Hydro taking a welder's education. He worked with McCaw McDonald Construction
building bridges on the Trans Canada Highway. He worked for Raymond Construction in the building of the Campbell Soup Plant at Portage la Prairie. He was the local school bus driver for 15 years. He was very involved in the running and maintenance of the Oakville Cemetery. He was a director and then president for over 20 years.
Donn's family was very important to him. He only wanted the best for his children and
grandchildren. Donn and Pat spent a great deal of time attending sports events to cheer their grandkids on. Many family get-togethers were held on the farm. Donn always made sure that there was ample entertainment, from skating rinks to trike rides. Donn was a private pilot, receiving his licence at age 39. Aside from farming Donn enjoyed hunting and fishing. He had many good memories of these past-times with
friends. An important part of Donn's life was hockey. He played hockey from a very
young age until he was 70 years old. Donn was a giving person. He loved people and
being with family and friends. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to others.
There will be a time of visitation and viewing on Wednesday evening, June 29, 2011 from 7:00 to 8:00 at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel, Portage la Prairie. A Celebration of Donn's life will be held at the Oakville Community Hall in Oakville on Thursday, June 30, 2011 at 2:00 pm led by Rev. Chuck Ross.
As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Donn's
memory to Oakville Cemetery, c/o Shirley Kirton, Box 88, Oakville, MB, ROH OYO or
Knox United Church, Box 246, Oakville, MB, ROH OYO.
