Donald Smith

December 11, 1929 — July 26, 2020

Peacefully, on July 26, 2020 Donald Smith passed away at the Lions Prairie Manor in Portage la Prairie, MB.

Dad is survived by his sons Rodney (Jane), Byron (Alana) and Calvin, granddaughters Dawn, Christa and Rebecca and great-granddaughters Ryleann, Macie and Avelynn. Also left to mourn are his brother-in-law Lodge Bullock and sister-in-law Betty Bullock, as well as numerous nephews and nieces.

Dad was predeceased by his wife Millie, infant son Bradley and nine siblings Elsie, Owen, Alf, Stanley, Irene, Eva, Ray, Phyl and Ivy.

Dad was born on December 11, 1929 in Portage la Prairie, MB and grew up in the Langruth area. He then moved on to Winnipeg, and in 1949, he married Millie. He spent 30 plus years working at Ray-O-Vac Batteries.

Dad loved going around the province and playing horseshoes. In the winter, he and Mom spent time travelling down to Mesa, AZ. In 2000 they moved to Poplar Point, where he loved to work in the garden. He really enjoyed going to McDonalds and having coffee with a great group of guys.

Dad spent the last year at the manor, and while there he made some lasting friendships, and even renewed some with people from his childhood.

Our family would like to send our sincere thanks and gratitude to the Lions Prairie staff, especially for the care he received in his last weeks.

As per Don’s request, no formal service will be held.

Donations in memory of Donald may be made to the Lions Prairie Manor Foundation Inc, 24 - 9th Street NE, Portage la Prairie, MB, R1N 3V4, or to a charity of choice.
