Dennis Harry Leonard
With sadness we regret to announce the sudden passing of Dennis Leonard on Monday, August 19, 2013 at his home at the age of 69 years.
Dennis was predeceased by his parents Mary Louise Leonard and Roger T. Leonard; brother Roger C. Leonard. Dennis is survived by his brother Richard (Viviane) Leonard with niece Natalie all of Winnipeg; sister-in-law Mona Leonard with niece Tina (Jim) Huta and nephew Darren (Chantale) Leonard with great nephew Austin and great niece Tia all of Winnipeg; many cousins especially Ernest (Stella) Aganier and Lorraine Snare who were close to him and their families. He will also be missed by his co-workers and friends.
Dennis was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member and supporter of the ANAF and the Belgian Club in Winnipeg. Dennis was interested in photography with the Portage Club and a supporter of traditional native culture.
Dennis worked as a teacher in Sprague, at Softley School in Winnipeg, and in Fisher Branch in the Interlake. Following this he worked as a teacher at the Manitoba Developmental Centre and finally at the Agassiz Youth Centre. He was a dedicated son, a caring teacher and a wonderful loving person.
A Funeral Service will take place on Friday, September 20 at 11:00 am at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel, 56 Royal Road South, Portage la Prairie, MB led by Deacon Bill Parrack. Interment will take place at the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Winnipeg, Manitoba following the service and reception.
As expressions of sympathy, if friends wish, donations may be made in Dennis’ memory to Central Plains Cancer Care Services, 318 Saskatchewan Ave. E., Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 0K8.
