Dennis Dupont

September 11, 1939 — October 14, 2018

Peacefully on Sunday, October 14, 2018, Dennis Dupont long-time member of the Portage La Prairie community, passed away peacefully in his sleep at the Lions Prairie Manor at the age of 79 years.

Dennis's presence will always be missed but his spirit will live on through his wife Kathy (nee Knight); son Joe (Corinne) Dupont with grandsons Scott, Evan and Cole; son Lyall Dupont with grandsons Austin and Ayric; son Rob (Tara) Dupont with grandchildren Carson and Mackenzie; sisters Theresa (Bob) Hebert and Joy Dupont; special niece Jan; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.  He was predeceased by his parents Joe and Tillie Dupont and brother Fred Dupont.

Born on September 11, 1939 to adoring parents Nathalia and Joseph Dupont , Dennis spent his youth in the rustic mining town of Red Lake, Ontario growing up with his older brother Fred, where he learned the values of deep respect and affection for all. He worked hard, and he played hard, witty and always ready to lend a hand.

Dennis had a wild passion for life, always curious and wanting to learn more.  His volunteer commitments to his community were relentless and are far too many to list.  Dennis always had a heart for those who were vulnerable or in need and would do whatever he could to help. He was a proud 35 year member of the Canadian Armed Forces, where his passion for travel, airplanes and world history flourished. Dennis and Kathy opened their home and hearts to so many where dinner was served, and conversation flowed.  As the years went by, their lives were so enhanced by the arrival of grandchildren. Dennis could only speak their names with a twinkle in his eye and a smile on his face.

Family would like to offer a deep gratitude to the staff at Lion's Prairie Manor where Dennis made his final home.  Having lost much of his physical abilities, Dennis remained smart and witty and the staff were joyful with him.

If you could remember our Dennis for just one thing, it might be this: whenever he saw you either passing on the street or at a meeting or just having a bit of a chat, it put a smile on his face and made him happy to be with you even for a moment...He was gifted that way!

Celebration of Dennis’ life will take place at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at 1:00 pm.

As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Dennis’ memory to Heart & Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 1379 Kenaston Boulevard Winnipeg, MB R3P 2T5 or Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, Unit 2 – 218 Saskatchewan Ave. E. Portage la Prairie, MB, R1N 0K9.
