With profound sadness we announce that on January 4, 2023 surrounded by his loving family our Dad, Dave Addison passed away peacefully at the Health Sciences Center at the age of 76.
Left to cherish his memory, Dad leaves behind his best friend and loving wife of 48 years Vicki, son Tyson (Maggie & Grady), daughter Andrea (Kourtney) grandchildren Brady and Taylor, brothers Larry (Tressia) and Rick. Dad will also be lovingly remembered by sister-in-law Annie (Ash), nieces and nephews Randy, Angie, Amanda, Brock and Omar, great nieces Reagan, Jordyn, Jenna, Alyssa, Brea and great nephew Ayrton; along with numerous extended family and friends. Dave was predeceased by his parents Ivan and Dorthy Addison and mother and father-in-law Mary and Pete Dmytryk.
Dad was born and raised in Portage. Dad always had fond memories of growing up on 7th Street. Dad had a lifelong love for all sports but his passion was the game of baseball. He started playing at a young age and as he grew so did the love for the game. Dad also enjoyed fishing and hunting and was game to go on any trip. His love of baseball ultimately led to meeting the love of his life while playing with the Kinosota Cougars. Marriage and family followed suit. Dad worked for 36 years at MDC where he made many friends and loved the work he did. He was also very active with the MGEU. As an adult Dad’s love of baseball and fastball switched from player to umpire where he found success. Once retired life came around Dad jumped into the life of business ownership starting his own hot dog stand, Addy’s Longdogs. Dad loved people and saw the good in all. He loved working the hotdog stand getting to chat with all kinds of different people from all over. Dad loved to travel to Mexico with his family and he enjoyed going on cruises with Mom. In recent years he started spending winters in Osoyoos, BC with great friends.
“Dad - We’ll always remember that special smile, caring heart, that warm embrace, you always gave us. You being there for mom and us, through good and bad times, no matter what. We’ll always remember you dad because there never will be another one to replace you in our hearts, and the love we will always have for you.”
