David Pashe

April 9, 1950 — December 9, 2020

On December 9, 2020 at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg, the Lord called home one of his own, David L. Pashe.

Left to mourn is his wife of 48 years Mildred, his four sons Trevor (Jovelyn), Kevin (Alicia), Rene (Chrissy) and Marty and daughter Denise, as well numerous brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

David was predeceased by his father Leonard Pashe, mother Agnes Pashe, brothers John Pashe and Reginald Pashe and sister Angela Pashe.

Born in the Sioux Village, MB, David was a residential school survivor.

Upon completion of high school, David attended college, completing auto mechanics and later a carpentry journeyman course.

In the early 80’s, he lived and worked in Dakota Tipi First Nation as a band councilor and as manager of Dakota Manufacturing Ltd.

In the late 80’s he moved to Brandon, MB for a total of 20 years, working for the school division as a liaison worker, and at John Howard Society as a counsellor before joining Assiniboine Community College as a professor of the Community Social Development program.

Due to health complications, David eventually returned home to Dakota Tipi First Nation for a peaceful retirement. Four years later, he was elected Chief of his community.

David enjoyed playing many sports over his lifetime, including hockey (goalie), baseball (Dakota Tipi and McKay Club), golfing, fishing, quading, and skidooing.

His hobbies include building a dune buggy, outdoor hockey rink, toboggan track, camping, gardening and having coffee on his deck with his four legged friend.

He spoke very highly of his students, family, friends and coworkers – longing to help in whatever capacity… supporting, encouraging, praising, financially, spiritually or whatever way he could.

But his greatest calling was his passion to serve the Lord Jesus. In 1980 he dedicated his life to the Lord. In the 90’s he pastored at the Reserve fellowship Chapel in Sioux Valley Dakota Nation for five years. His last desire was to bring the church back to Dakota Tipi First Nation.

Now his life, love and laughter will be missed by all, as this part of the journey is complete.

We want to thank you all for complying with the covid restrictions during his viewing and funeral service.
