It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of David Justin MacDonald on July 8th, 2024 at the age of 45 years.
After fighting a long and hard battle he finally succumbed to the ravages of Duchenne’s Muscular Dystrophy. No more pain, no more anxiety, no more stress, no more challenges. David enjoyed many things in life, such as gardening, canning, watching cooking shows with his Mom, brothers and caregivers. He was a real movie buff, knowing pretty much every movie and actor. He was also a fan of Star Trek, and spent countless hours on his computer playing games and researching. He loved being out in the sun, going for strolls and visiting neighbours along the way. Spending time with family meant everything to him.
David was a remarkable individual. Gentle, kind and extremely courageous with incredible strength of mind. Every challenge that he was faced with he took in stride with little complaint, while maintaining his sense of humor. He insisted on living in his own apartment and enjoyed his freedom and being able to make his own decisions, being as independent as possible.
It is comforting to think of him reunited with loved ones. He will be fondly and lovingly remembered by his mom, Colleen MacDonald, brothers Ryan and Michael MacDonald, father Brian MacDonald, aunt Laurie and uncle Leon Bakker and aunt Kathy Alexander, as well as several cousins and all who knew him.
David was predeceased by his grandparents Herb and Helen Morcombe, Eva Hanks and Earl Murray MacDonald and aunts Barbara Bandura and Shirley Barrett.
His spirit is free.
As per David’s wishes, cremation has taken place and no formal funeral will be held.
If friends so desire, donations may be made in David’s memory to Make-a-Wish Manitoba, 350 St. Mary Avenue Winnipeg, MB, R3C 3J2.
A tree will be planted in memory and cared for by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel. www.mckenziesportagefuneralchapel.com
