David Lawrence Guy
On Thursday, November 20, 2014, surrounded by the five women he loved and cared for so deeply, in the comfort of his own bed, the pucker of one last kiss on his lips and the sun streaming down, our amazing David set off on his next adventure. He was only 61 years old.
Left to cherish thousands of memories are his beloved wife of 40 years Kim, who gave him her colouring book in grade one and knew he was the boy she was going to marry; daughter Amy and son-in-law David and his grandchildren Max and Gaby, daughter Jenny and son-in-law Matt, daughter Kelsey and son-in-law Jess and his granddaughter Everly and daughter Paige and son-in-law Bryant and his grandson Hudson.
He grew up in a very large family of ten children, all of whom and their families will miss him tremendously; Donna and Harold, Larry and Pat, Brenda and Dave, Billy and Lonie, Beryleen and Ron, Robin and Rick, Dennis and Linda, Brad and Brenda and Vaughn and Delinda; many many many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Kim’s family, who treated David as one of their own, include his mother-in-law Ena; sister and brother-in-law Judy and Randy and brother and sister-in-law Perry and Roxanne along with three nieces and one nephew.
There to greet him with open arms in Heaven are his parents Bill and Phyllis; father-in-law Grant; niece Kaitlyn and his faithful Cleo.
David was born in Portage la Prairie on February 27, 1953 and grew up in the small community of Poplar Point. His childhood and youth were influenced by several special families to whom he was forever indebted.
Dad and mom’s love story is one for the ages. The devotion and mutual respect they had for one another was a model that has served us well in our own relationships. They knew how to have fun; on trips all over the world; camping at St. Ambroise, Friday night get-togethers or just the two of them at home alone.
Our dad was a “jack of all trades” and if something could be fixed he would fix it. There are many people whose basements, bathrooms, light fixtures, or other odd jobs were completed by dad with a smile on his face. He was a lifetime member of the Portage Plainsmen; a top notch group of guys Dad was proud to be a part of. The fellowship he enjoyed was second only to his talent on the ice. Many Sunday mornings or weekday afternoons in the spring and summer months were spent on the golf course with mom or his friends.
After a long, fulfilling and rewarding career with the Provincial Government, dad began his retirement job as BDD (Bus Driver Dave); a school bus driver for the Portage School Division. The flexibility that came with this job was perfect for dad, and his bus kids were lucky to have him.
Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at Trinity United Church 15 Tupper St. S at 11:00 am and will be led by Julie Baker.
