Darlene Susan Andrew

With sadness, we announce that Darlene Susan Andrew passed away suddenly on Friday, October 27, 2023, at her home in Portage la Prairie at the age of 66.

Left to treasure her memory are her sisters, Maureen Embury (Ted) of BC, Linda Andrew of Winnipeg, MB, and Terry Sykes (Murray) of Winnipeg, as well as nieces and nephews Jennifer, Valerie, Geordy, Sheena, and Jeremy. She is also lovingly remembered by her roommates, Shirley and Ruby, and all the staff who knew and supported her from her Visions of Independence family and the MDC, as well as many friends residing at MDC.

Darlene was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Eleanor (nee Brady), sister Valerie, and nephew Owen.

Darlene was born in Winnipeg, the youngest of 5 children. At age 11, she moved into the MDC, where she lived for 54 years. Darlene moved into the community with Visions of Independence in March 2023. Darlene loved sleeping in, being outside, and coffee. She was a foodie, and especially had a passion for chocolate! Darlene was fond of music, especially if it included her name. Darlene had a great sense of humour, often teasing staff, and a beautiful smile that lit up any room she was in. 

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at McKenzies Funeral Chapel, 56 Royal Rd. S., Portage la Prairie, MB, with viewing on November 7, 2023, from 3:00 to 5:00 pm.
