Daniel Kelly Steeden
After a lengthy illness we regret to announce the peaceful passing of Daniel Kelly Steeden on October 13, 2013 at Regina, Saskatchewan at the age of 54, surrounded by his family.
Danny was born November 15, 1958 in Winnipeg, Manitoba and moved to Portage la Prairie on November 9, 1960, becoming the youngest son of Clifford and Audrey Steeden where he was welcomed into a large and changing family.
Predeceased by his mother Audrey in 1975, Danny will be dearly missed by his long term companion and soul mate, Terri Brockwell; their beloved son Andrew Steeden; father Clifford Steeden; sisters Dianne (Romeo) Nadeau and Beverly (Ian) Robertson; and brothers Terry and Gerald (Betty); along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Danny so appreciated his close cousin Lori Chaboyer (BCF) staying with him in his final weeks.
Danny enjoyed a wonderful childhood surrounded by many children in a home filled with relatives, fun and laughter. He enjoyed holidays camping and fishing - and went to Germany with his parents and brother to visit his sister and family. He attended elementary and high school in Portage. Always involved in sports he was active in golf, baseball and hockey. Hockey masks were just coming in to vogue in those years - and we always remember his dad making his hockey mask - and Danny having to breathe through a straw until the plaster set! A favorite pastime was "doing wheelies” along the city streets - and many back tires were purchased over the years. Very talented in both tap dancing and piano - he also had a great interest in working on cars with his mechanic father. It was an interest that served him well throughout his working years. Danny was enrolled in the Militia in Portage - and spent a summer at the Vernon Army Camp as well as a few months in Germany. Danny worked for many years in the automobile business, and his last few years were spent making props for movies and plays. He was a young man who honored his parents and family. He endured his illness quietly and without complaint.
The family would like to thank his doctors, and the nurses in the Kidney Dialysis Unit in Regina for the wonderful care over the past four years.
In lieu of flowers donations to the Kidney Foundation of Canada, would be appreciated. 1545 C McAra Street, Regina, SK S4N 6H4.
Cremation has taken place in Regina - and his ashes will be interred in the family plot at Evergreen Cemetery, Portage La Prairie MB. In accordance with Danny's wishes there will be no formal funeral service. The family asks that you come and share in a celebration of his life, at a luncheon at Herman Prior Centre on Saturday October 19 th 2013 at 2:00pm.
