Clifford George Longclaws

Suddenly on October 3, 2013, Clifford “Punky” Longclaws, former resident of Calgary died at his home in Winnipeg, Manitoba at the age of 52 years.

Cliff is survived by his son Dale Aaron Longclaws (Leona) and their sons:  Skylur; Kobe, Malakai, and Tajhon; his siblings Brian (Karen), Janet (Valdie), Melvin (Bernadette), Louise, and Joseph (Anita); extended family members Christine, Margaret, Del, Jeannie, Calvin, and Lynn.

Predeceased by his parents: Eliza Longclaws and Clifford George Chaske; siblings: Alvin, Nelson, Lloyd and Joanne; maternal family members: grandparents: Jerry and Clara Longclaws; Uncle Alfred, Aunties Doreen, Clarus, & Isabelle; niece Lynda Siouxzane Cook; paternal family members: grandparents: Harry and Winona Chaske; Uncle Herbie, Aunties Doreen and Georgina.

Cliff was born July 2, 1961 in Portage la Prairie to Eliza Longclaws and Clifford George Chaske.  Punky could accomplish anything he set his mind to do.  At a very early age, he would help Dad with renovations to the family home in Sioux Village.  For seven years, he enjoyed being the youngest of the family siblings and then becoming the bigger brother.  He was a former student having attended the Brandon Indian residential school.

Cliff met his wife, Lynn Hayes and their son, Dale Aaron Longclaws was born.  An extremely proud father and wanting to do best for his son, Cliff enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces.  He served our country with 2 nd and 3 rd Battalion, Princess Patricia Canadian Light Infantry from 1983 to 1990, was stationed in various Canadian bases, and retired in Vancouver, Canada.

He spent more than 20 years in Calgary in the commercial and residential construction industry as a carpenter, and safety supervisor for PCL Construction Holdings and other major construction firms.

Traditional Wake will begin Sunday, October 6, 2013 at 5:00 pm at MNP Exhibition Building on Island Park, Portage la Prairie.  Traditional Feast and Service will take place on Monday, October 7, 2013 beginning at noon followed by his body being laid to rest in the Longclaws Homestead Cemetery, Long Plain.
