Peacefully on Tuesday March 1, 2022, Charles “Charlie” Payette passed away at the Portage District General Hospital at the age of 92 years.
He was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Eva “Amanda” Payette; wife Delia (nee Desjarlais); sisters Ruth Dack (Ed), Kathleen Borley (Cliff), Margaret Huddlestone (Wilfred), Maria Buck (John) and Ida Smith (Norman); brothers Martin (Florence), Damus (Mary), Maurice (Ila) and Robert (Rose-Anne).
Left to mourn his passing are his daughters Charlene (Bob) Hadley and Shelley (Doug) Carmichael; son Murray Payette; grandchildren Patti (Chris) Walker, Chris Hadley, Brendan Carmichael (Lisa Foster), Tyne Carmichael (Nathan Peto), Hilary Carmichael (Drew Dutka), Christian Payette and Sebastian Payette; great-grandchildren Emily and Sophie Walker, Jayla, Brynnique and Grayson Hadley, Noah and Henry Peto; along with numerous extended family and friends.
Charlie worked at several jobs throughout his life as a cement finisher, auto mechanic, truck driver, school bus driver, and transport driver for Property Management and Development at Southport. He was also a Registered Psychiatric Nurse at the Manitoba Developmental Centre for over 32 years and retired in 1987. He loved hunting and the outdoors and never missed a deer season, and he and Delia took many road trips together over the years. Charlie loved old-time fiddle music, western movies, cribbage, chess and checkers. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his pride and joy, and in his eyes they could do no wrong.
