With great sadness and heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Chad Miller with his family by his side on Sunday November 30, 2014 in Chicago, Illinois at the young age of 21.
Left to cherish his memory is his mother Erin Miller; father Ryan Simpson; sister Kaeley Simpson; grandparents George and Mona Miller; uncle and aunt Curtis and Tamara Miller; cousins Brody Miller and Jack Simpson; mentor, friend and coach Reid Simpson and special friend Jamie Durkin. Also, his extended family, countless friends, teammates and his “other” families in Chicago.
Chad was born on August 20, 1993 in Portage la Prairie. He grew up in Portage la Prairie, going to school at Fort La Reine, Crescentview, Arthur Meighen, and Portage Collegiate Institute where he graduated.
He left Portage to pursue his dream to play hockey at Bottineau College. An opportunity came his way to head to the Chicago area to play Junior Hockey for 2 years. This led him currently to be attending Robert Morris University to play hockey for the Robert Morris University Eagles where he was enrolled in Sports Business, in the hopes of having a career in the world of sports.
Chad grew up involved in many different activities. His organized activities included hockey, where he was a member of Portage Minor Hockey Terriers, PCI Trojans, Central Plains Leafs, Bottineau Lumberjacks, Illiana Blackbirds, Robert Morris University Eagles; baseball, where he was a member of Portage Minor Baseball, PCI Trojans, Senior Men’s baseball, Men’s softball Slow Pitch; football where he was a member of Portage Pitbulls; golf where he was a long time member of Portage Golf Club and member of PCI golf team; basketball, member of PCI Trojans.
He could be found socializing with friends playing road hockey, going to the green space; playing ball, fishing, boating, shooting hoops, tennis, listening to music, x-box, and most importantly spending time at Koko Platz community club.
Chad had such amazing ability to make new friends and was loved by all. He could walk into any room and light it up with his charisma and smile. His carefree, easy going attitude helped him foster many relationships with anyone who had the fortune to meet him.
Celebration of his Life and Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, December 9th at 2:00 pm at Trinity United Church led by Reverend Julie Baker. Private interment will follow at a later date.
Chad will live on, as he was able to be a donor enabling him to help many people. His legacy will live on through others. As expression of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made to Koko Platz Recreation Club, 6 Ireland Cres. Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 3S1 where Chad spent countless hours playing hockey as a youth and continued to go there when he came home. This was his home away from home.
A tree will be planted in memory and cared for by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel.
