Catherine Kostuchuk

With great sadness we announce the passing of Catherine “Cathy” Kostuchuk on Monday, December 14, 2020 in Portage la Prairie, MB at the age of 79 years.

She was predeceased by her husband Joseph (Joe) Kostuchuk and parents Jack and Olive Brooks.  Cathy will be lovingly remembered by her son James Kostuchuk (Kristin Zwarich) and grandchildren Jennifer and Jake, son Robert Kostuchuk (Tessa) with grandchildren Jett and Amileo, along with extended family and friends.

Cathy was born in Winnipeg and raised in Swan River, Manitoba.  In her younger years she enjoyed dancing and playing the piano.  She met and married Joseph Kostuchuk and they raised their family in Dauphin, Manitoba.  As a young woman, she worked for the Natural Resources department.  Cathy enjoyed crosswords, writing, family history, chocolate, dining out, and visits with family. In her later years, her “happy/grouchy” personality brought a smile to people’s faces. She was a member of the Royal Purple and was appointed to the Manitoba License Suspension Appeal Board. She served for many years as a volunteer for the Progressive Conservative Party in Dauphin and was especially active in the campaign office during provincial elections. Cathy’s greatest loves were her grandchildren and family pets. Her affection for a noisy cockatiel, Allie, reflected her passion for animal welfare. Most of all, Cathy missed her husband Joe. She shared his interest in automobiles, riding around Dauphin in a variety of unusual vehicles including a Volkswagen Thing and a 1916 Gray Dort. Their traveling adventures started with a driving trip to the Mexican border in the early 1960s, dumping ice cubes in the air vents to keep cool. This was followed by a train trip to Expo 67 in Montreal. In later years Joe and Cathy would head south for surf and sand, Joe snorkeling and Cathy reading mystery novels on the beach. Cathy struggled through several significant health issues over the past several years but believed that we shouldn’t let the shadows of yesterday spoil the sunshine of today.

Private family service will take place with burial at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
