Carole Diane Brooks
nee Ogilve
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Carole Diane Brooks (nee Ogilvie) at the age of 75 years on Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at the Portage General Hospital, beloved wife of the late Douglas George Brooks.
Mom was born in Portage La Prairie on January 4, 1940 to Leonard William and Ada (nee Lister) where she was raised and received her education. Mom and Dad first met in elementary school and later married on July 26, 1958. They remained in Portage to work and raise their family. Throughout her life, Mom was employed at the Elite movie theatre, and the Campbell Soup Company. She operated a Home Daycare for many years until returning to work in the retail industry at the Saan Store and the Red Apple Store, prior to retiring.
Mom was very proud to have lived in her childhood home for 48 years of her life, 18 years prior to her marriage and 30 years after when she and Dad moved back into the home. (Dad, not so much!). Following an illness shortly after Dad's passing, Mom was determined to remain in her home and did so until her recent illness required her to be in hospital.
Family was her strength, her devotion was her compassion. It was evident in her every breath; she disciplined, she enjoyed, she welcomed, she accepted, she participated, she protected. She did it well and we love her for it. She valued her lifetime friendships and she was a valued friend in return. She and her Mother, Ada were blessed to have experienced a Mother/Daughter bond and friendship that endured throughout their lifetime together.
Predeceased by her husband Doug (2013), her parents, Leonard and Ada; sister-in-law Fran Ogilvie; nephew in infancy, Craig Ogilvie. Brothers-in-law, Robert Brooks in infancy, Steve Michaluk, Orville (Bud) Doherty, Allan (Pokey) Brooks; sister-in-law Muriel Doherty, nephews, Kenny Michaluk and Leslie Doherty.
She leaves to mourn her passing; son Kevin of Winnipeg; son Robert (Joni) of Winnipeg and grandchildren Kalie (Vlado Batarilo) and their children, twins Luka and Milena of Winnipeg; Reisa (Keenan Horton) and their daughter, Leityn of Victoria, BC.; Taylor (Landon) and Cole (Jayme) of Winnipeg; son Kenneth (Nancy) of Portage and grandchildren Randi (Jordan), Derrick (Carly), Jeremy (Courtlyn) and Jayson; daughter Brenda (Cory) Burke and grandchildren Haidyn, Jarett and Reid; brother Bryon Ogilvie, twin nieces Shannon (Mike Vey) and Sheryl (Wes) Milgaard and their families; sisters-in-law May (Doug) Garnham and Martha Brooks of Portage, Jeannie Michaluk and Doreen (Norman) Hildebrand of Winnipeg, brother-in-law Roland (Bunny) of Oakville, MB.
A special thank you to Dr. Mufasa Gonheim for his understanding, and for the compassion and care that he provided to our Mother over the past few years and thank you to all the Nurses at the Portage General Hospital who provided their care to our Mother.
The Family wishes to extend our deepest gratitude to Margaret and Gary Clark for their sincere and loving friendship bestowed upon our Mother and to Scott Treffrey for keeping a watchful eye over our Mother and caring for her yard in summer and winter over the past few years.
“It broke our hearts to lose you, the day God took you home. If tears could build a stairway, we’d walk our way to heaven to bring you back again. In life we loved you dearly, in death we love you still, in our hearts you hold a place no one could ever fill.”
Funeral services and interment have been held.
Should friends so desire, memorial donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba – Portage Office, 103 Wilkinson Crescent, Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 1A7.
