Carol Ann Banman

(nee Foote)

Suddenly with family by her side, Carol Banman passed away on Friday, May 1, 2015 at the age of 67 years.

She will be lovingly remembered by her husband Jake; three children: son Rick (Darlene), daughter Teresa (Bryan Dyck), daughter Connie (Terry Wiebe); grandchildren Ryan (Chantal) and Jenessa (Ryan Bartel); Jessica (friend Monty), Caitlyn and Tyson; Jerrod, Carah and Krysten; great grandchildren Riley and Brooke Banman.  She also leaves to mourn her mother Olive Foote, six siblings and a large extended family, as well as seven in-laws and their families.  Carol was predeceased by her father Sidney Foote.

Carol was born in Carman, Manitoba on August 10, 1947, the second oldest in her family.  Her growing up years were all spent on the family farm, where together they worked hard and made great memories that she cherished.  As a kid she was involved in 4-H and this carried over when she had kids.  The values that her parents taught her shaped her into the person she became.  They taught her by their example of marriage, commitment to family and church and their strong work ethic.

At the age of 14 she met the love of her life at a baseball game where Carol was playing and Jake was a base ump.  On August 6, 1966 she married Jacob Banman. Their first two years of marriage were spent in Winnipeg.  Then with a one month old they moved to a farm north west of Elm Creek where they raised their three children.  Carol loved life and she loved people.  This led her to many jobs and involvements in her church and community, on top of taking care of a house, farmyard and children.  Her jobs included Woolco, Heritage Bookstore, Newton Enterprises, CIBC and lastly as a Creative Memories Consultant.  In her community of Elm Creek she volunteered in many things like 4-H, figure skating, and on the Manor Board to name a few.

Carol was baptized together with Jake and they joined the Newton Community Fellowship Church, where they attended.  Church and her faith in God has always been important.  She invested in people through Sunday School, Midweek, being youth sponsors and loved being a greeter at church.

Carol will be remembered for her positive outlook on life and for her warm and caring smile.  Her family was her life!  She loved having us all at the farm and we enjoyed many fun and crazy things together as a family.  She was always there with her camera ready to capture all the memories so she could scrapbook and remember them forever.  Watching her grandchildren was a favorite pastime and they drove many miles to their various activities, never wanting to miss anything.  Her grandchildren were her greatest joy and now recently her two great grandchildren.  Carol had many hobbies which included being creative with sewing, knitting and scrapbooking.  She loved to enjoy the outdoors with camping, snowmobiling, gardening and watching baseball.

Carol was a kind and compassionate person and had a huge heart for people.  She has left a huge hole and will be deeply missed by many.  “Grief never ends … but it changes.  It’s a passage, not a place to stay.  Grief is not a sign of weakness nor a lack of faith … It’s the price of love.”  You stole a piece of our heart and we will love you forever.

A celebration of Carol’s life will take place on Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at 3:30 pm at the Newton Community Fellowship Church.

As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Carol’s memory to the Youth for Christ Memorial Fund, 60 Tupper St.N, Portage la Prairie, MB, R1N 1W8.
