Brian Harold McCulloch
With deep regret we announce the passing of our beloved Brian McCulloch on Thursday, January 9, 2014 at Portage General Hospital at the age of 81 years.
He is predeceased by his parents William and Jean; brothers Bruce and Roy; sisters Joyce Langton and Betty Vandaele. Left to cherish his memory are his St.George family, Joseph, Nora, Jeanette, Cathy, Simone, Lauren and Lindsay and his Trinity Church Family, very special friends Eva, Pat, everyone at Portage ARC and the Pruden family.
Brian was born in Winnipeg on August 11, 1932. He was raised in the family home until his move to Manitoba Developmental Center in 1944 where he remained till 1978. When he moved to the community he resided in a foster care home then moved into an apartment of his own with PK Apartments. In 1984 he became a part of the Association Community Living, Portage family where he lived until his passing. Brian was a very hard worker being employed in a green house, housekeeping, Portage Hospital, the Salvation Army and Portage Arc Industries until his retirement in September 2011. Brian was a very sweet and gentle man. He loved to sit for hours outside reading his paper, watching the birds and all the school kids in the area. He loved going out into community whether it was to go for a drive, off to Dairy Queen for his Saturday lunch, checking out the fire trucks, attending church on Sunday morning or just for a walk. Brain spent a great deal of time listening to polka party, and watching Lawrence Welk show. He also loved his yearly trip to Clear Lake. Brian was always happy to join in with his favourite groups, Games night being a high priority, attending special meetings with People First and making sure everyone at Trinity was aware of any missed announcements.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel from 7 to 8 pm. A Service to Celebrate Brian's life will be on Thursday, January 16, 2014 at 1:00 pm at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Julie Baker officiating.
