Brian Gerrard

Brian Gerrard of Portage la Prairie passed away at the Portage District General Hospital on Sunday, June 15, 2014 at the age of 74 years.

Brian was born on May 14, 1940 in Cloudside, England.  He was raised in the Congleton area until he moved to the New Mills area where he built a house in the small village of Furnace Vale.  In 1980 he moved with his family to Canada, where he farmed in a few different Manitoba communities.  In 1985 Brian moved to Portage la Prairie where he opened a scrap metal yard.  He stayed with the company until he retired in 2004.  Brian enjoyed his retirement years going to auction sales and collecting antiques.

Brian is survived by his wife Maria; sons Sam (Joanie) Gerrard, Nathan (Kim) Gerrard and William Gerrard; grandchildren Cassie, Grady, Brody and Cooper all of Portage la Prairie; sisters Barbara, Lily and Pearl (Andre) and brother Doug all of Congleton, England.

A Funeral Service will be held at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel on Friday, June 20, 2014 at 2:00 pm.  Private family interment will take place at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
