Bev Connery, beloved wife of Ed Connery, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 4, 2019 at Portage General Hospital at the age of 84 years.
She was predeceased by her brother Edwin; sons Doug and Jeff and daughter Jackie. Bev will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 65 years, Ed; brother Phil; son Tim; daughters-in-law Paulette and Beth; son-in-law Ron; grandchildren Jarrett, Erin (Gil), Sheri (Dusty), Scott, Sam (Kyle) and Chris (Lisa) and their families; a large extended family and many friends.
Bev was born in Homefield, Mb and later moved to Winnipeg with her mother. She met Ed at a church social and they married in 1953 making their home in St Vital. In 1964, the young family made the permanent move to Portage and many friendships were made and nurtured into lifelong relationships in the new community.
The move was prompted by the farm and Bev was an active, working partner on the farm who enjoyed the many industry conferences and friendships with people associated with the industry. Here in Portage she was a very busy mother to Doug, Jackie, Jeff and Tim and spent time supporting them in their endeavours. She was an active member of Trinity United Church, teaching Sunday school in the early years, then becoming a CGIT leader and was a lifelong member of the UCW.
Bev was very involved with her grandchildren and loved spending time with them. Concerts, carnivals, practices, games, all were opportunities to spend time with them. Grandma’s house was also available for sick days and snow days, pampering was encouraged by the grandchildren and a keen game of Skip-bo was often on the agenda. Great grandchildren were a further joy to her, including the surprise introduction to her first great grandson!
Travel was another love and she had many opportunities with Ed, her family and friends. Bev and Ed traveled extensively together over the years. She enjoyed seeing most of the US and Canada, much of Europe and the UK, and parts of South America and the Pacific. Cruising was also enjoyed with the Alaskan cruise being her favourite.
A Celebration of Bev’s life will be held at Trinity United Church, Portage la Prairie, on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at 2:00 pm, led by Rev Beth Kerr.
