Beatrice Jean "Bea" Ferguson

Peacefully on Thursday, April 3, 2014 Bea Ferguson passed away at the Portage District General Hospital at the age of 83 years.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter-in-law Gwen (Daryl); two granddaughters, Tara (Calvin) and Stacey (Mark); four great grandchildren Natalie and Kobe, Cash and Willow; sister Bernice Tashiro; several nieces and nephews and other extended family.
Bea was predeceased by her parents Alex and Annie McRae; beloved husband George Ferguson; and her much loved sons Brian and Brock.
Born in Portage la Prairie September 8, 1930 Bea was the oldest of twins by 15 minutes. She was raised and educated in Portage and worked at various jobs in Portage including a private kindergarten, the Portage Credit Union and Portage Funeral Chapel. Bea gave much to her community through her volunteering. She was active in many areas of the First Presbyterian Church and was a faithful member in several organizations earning such positions as Past Grand Mistress of Ladies Orange Benevolent Society of Manitoba, Past Worthy Mistress of L.O.B.A. 316 Portage and Life Member of the Royal Canadian Legion #65. She will be remembered for her sense of humor as she helped perform skits, her baking, knitting and playing piano for church, funerals and the Remembrance Day Service. Bea liked to travel. She visited Britian, Holland, Disneyland and both the east and west coasts. Bea was very proud of her family and in the last few years found much pleasure in her times with her daughter-in-law, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A time of visitation and viewing will be held on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel from 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm. A Celebration of Bea’s Life will be held on Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at First Presbyterian Church at 2:00 pm. A private family interment will take place at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Bea’s memory to the First Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, 17 Royal Road S., Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 1T8 or to Central Plains Cancer Care Services, 318 Sask. Ave. E, Portage la Prairie, MB, R1N 0K8.
