Basil Frank Rowley

Peacefully, on Wednesday, June 25, 2014, Basil Rowley passed away at the Lions Prairie Manor at the age of 91 years.

He was predeceased by his sister Helen Davis and brothers-in-law Bruce Rodgers and Robert Cardinal.  Basil is survived by his sisters Vi Rodgers, Marion (Doug) Horwood and Dot Cardinal; brother-in-law Henry Davis, along with many nieces and nephews.

Through his life Basil had an interest in music, both playing the organ and dancing.  He also had an interest in photography and enjoyed 10 pin bowling in his younger years.  Later in life Basil could be found walking his dog Scamper along the lake or at Island Park on a daily basis.  He served with the Armed Services at McDonald, worked for Carmichaels Plumbing and Heating, InterCity Gas and the Portage Hospital prior to his retirement.

The family would like to thank the doctors at the Portage Hospital and all the staff at the Lions Prairie Manor for the care provided to Basil.

Funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 3, 2014, at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel at 2:00 pm led by Rev. John Dolloff.  Interment will take place at Hillside Cemetery.

As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Basil’s memory to St. Mary’s la Prairie Anglican Church, 36-2nd St. SW, Portage la Prairie, MB, R1N 2A1 or to Central Plains Cancer Care Services, 318 Sask. Ave. E, Portage la Prairie, MB, R1N OK8 or to Portage District General Hospital Foundation, 524 Fifth St.SE, Portage la Prairie, MB, R1N 3A8.
