Barry Patterson

March 25, 1958 — December 21, 2017

Barry Neal Patterson

Suddenly, on Thursday December 21, 2017, Barry Patterson passed away at his home at the age of 59 years.

Barry was born in 1958 and grew up in Edwin, MB.  He was predeceased by his mother, Marguerite (Maggie) Patterson and father Melvin McGowan.  Barry was survived by his sisters; Larien (Blake) Vezey and Sherri (Steve) Morden; brother Keith McGowan; nieces Kiera and Chloe; nephew Justin; cousins and many good friends.

Barry’s unique sense of humour and love for a good party always found him in the company of friends.  Though he didn’t have children of his own he was a special “uncle” to the McCulley family.   The kids always looked forward to the annual Grey Cup parties and special family celebrations.   Aside from his many connections with family and friends, Barry shared his heart with his cat Gizmo, who never left his side. Cat toys and treats could be found in any drawer or cupboard in his house.

Barry owned and operated Patterson Painting for the past 30 years until he became ill and was unable to manage his business.  Barry’s work was second to none when it came to hiring a painter.  He knew his stuff and people trusted his opinion and valued his dedication to his work.  You knew that when the job was done, it would be done well.   He was a master decorator and loved to redesign his homes.   A little “secret” project usually lasted for a long time but ended as a masterpiece filled with pride and always ended with a “revealing” party with friends.

Barry lived a very simple lifestyle.  As long as he had a big screen T.V. and a remote he was happy.  Barry loved sports especially the Boston Red Socks.   He loved to argue over the best team in the league with anyone who would listen. Much of his spring and summer was spent on the golf course.   Barry was a smart man.  He knew to hire good painters so he could wander off to the golf course occasionally.  When he wasn’t busy painting, Barry could be found in his yard surrounded by his flower gardens.  Barry could grow peppers better than anyone though he guarded them closely.

A private family graveside service will take place at a later date at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
