Ardeth Poschenrieder

November 3, 1940 — June 22, 2016

Ardeth May Poschenrieder

Surrounded by love, Mom passed away peacefully on June 22, 2016.

Survived by son Doug (Shelley), daughters Cindy (Butch), Kim (Warren), and Leslie (Scott).  Grandchildren Dustin (Christine), Megan (Marlow), Ashley (Gillian), Janelle (Mike), Leia (Tim), Courtney (Cole), Melissa (Dan), Rendalyn (Alex), Brittany (Dan), Sadie and Samantha.  Great grandchildren Kieran, Declan, and Theron Poschenrieder, Cole and Brodie Thompson, Darielle Brandt, Logan Pedden-Pfeifer, Juliette Freeborn, Gemma and Jace Braden, as well as her faithful companion, Poppy.  Also survived by two sisters Nora and Barb and sister-in-law Eve.

She was predeceased by her husband Bert, her mom Mabel, and brother Ray Bechdoldt.

Born November 3, 1940 in Winnipeg Manitoba, Mom grew up in the community of Amaranth.  Her childhood was spent riding horses and being a true ‘tom boy”.  She attended Normal School and taught at a small rural school in the Waldersee area.   On the way to a barn dance, she caught the eye of a tall handsome man from Lakeland who desperately wanted her phone number. And the rest is history! Together they had 4 children and raised them with traditional farm values that hard work reaps rewards.  She was a devoted farm wife and made sure meals and coffee were always ready when needed whether it was at 6:00 am or 11:00 p.m.

She enjoyed sewing, canning and baking, and was well known for her fabulous garlic dill pickles and beef stew.  Often, her freezer was raided by her children and grandchildren in search of her famous ginger snaps.

She loved her coffee and the first stop in Portage was Tim Horton’s coffee shop!  She enjoyed attending fall suppers in the surrounding communities, and many evenings and Sundays were spent crop checking or just going for a drive.

Family was everything to her and she will be missed dearly.

A celebration of Ardeth’s life will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 26, 2016 at the Westbourne Community Hall, with Keith Lambert officiating. A private family interment will take place in the Westbourne Cemetery.
