In 1969, Alvin married Ellamae (née Orton) and together they raised four children. Alvin and Ellamae celebrated nearly 48 years of marriage.
Alvin farmed all his life in Oakville with his brothers Vic and Art until pretending to retire in 1988. Alvin could be found helping out many local farmers before the big move to Portage la Prairie in 1996. Now a city dweller, he had time to dedicate to curling, golf, shuffleboard, crib, bike riding and having coffee with friends.
