Alma Simm

January 14, 1927 — April 30, 2014

Alma (Burns) Simm

It is with heavy hearts that we wish to inform you of the sudden passing of Alma (Burns) Simm of Portage la Prairie on Wednesday, April 30, 2014.  She is survived by her son William (Bill) Simm of Portage la Prairie and brother James Burns of Cape Breton, Nova Scotia as well as many nieces and nephews.

Alma grew up in Cape Breton, graduating from the Nova Scotia Teachers College and later the University of Manitoba.  After teaching a number of years in Nova Scotia she continued her teaching career in Manitoba.  In retirement her interests were mainly in the out-of-doors and she loved the open prairies.  Photography was one of her main interests along with swimming, hiking and birding.

Alma was predeceased by her parents John and Euphemia Burns, brothers Danny, Neil, Fraser and Robert Burns, sisters Lexie Stevenson, Annie James and Tina Hann all of Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.

By Alma’s wishes there will be no visitation or funeral.  After Cremation her ashes will be interred in Cape Breton at a later date.

“If you wish to remember me, do it with a kind deed or a word to someone who needs it.  If you do this I will be remembered always.  Take care of the wildflowers and always keep the young people and their needs in mind.”

We request no flowers please.  Donations may be made in Alma’s memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba – Portage Office, 103 Wilkinson Crescent, Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 1A7 or to The Kidney Foundation of Canada, MB Branch, Unit 1-452 Dovercourt Drive, Winnipeg, MB, R3Y 1G4

A tree will be planted in memory and cared for by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel.  204-857-4021 www.mckenziesportagefuneralchapel.com
