After a short illness, on Friday April 21, 2017, at the Portage District General Hospital, Alice Johnston passed away at the age of 80 years.

She will be lovingly remembered by her husband Douglas; sons Robert (Jonita) Johnston of Thompson, MB, Keven of Portage la Prairie, MB and Layne (Sheila) of Vancouver, BC; grandchildren Jesse Johnston and Hannah Johnston; siblings Nick (Anne) Penner, Anne (Mike) Dimitroff, Lydia Giesbrecht, Sara (John) Dyck, Hilda (Ed) Burwood, Margie Penner, Elaine Laroche, Lucy (Ernie) Andres and sister-in-law Edith Penner along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Alice was predeceased by her parents Jacob and Sara Penner; siblings Erna Loewen, Jacob Penner, Peter Penner and brothers-in-law Peter Loewen, George Giesbrecht and Henry Penner.

Alice was born in Brandon, MB and grew up in Headingly, MB.  Alice and Douglas celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2016.  She had a beautiful smile and was very caring and warm.  Alice always had time for people.  During her time in the hospital she learned the names and took an interest of all the healthcare workers and patients around her. Over the last few years, Alice got her first smart phone and loved interacting with family and friends on social media.  She was a wonderful grandmother who loved to spoil her grandchildren.  Alice was proud of completing her LPN training in her thirties. Until recently she continued to do foot care nursing and she enjoyed helping and taking care of others.

Funeral service will be held on Friday, April 28, 2017 at Highway Pentecostal Church at 2:00 pm led by Pastor Larry Bird, with viewing being held at 12:30 pm.  Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery.
