Alfred Lavallee

Peacefully, with his family by his side, Alfred Lavallee passed away at the Douglas Campbell Lodge on July 26, 2018 at the age of 80 years.

Alfred is predeceased by his wife Stella Lavallee; his parents Paul & Marie and siblings James, Ben Betty, Rose, Edna, Harry, Gedion, Milda, Delores & Myrtle.

Left to cherish his memory are his children Bill (Karen), Al (Barb), Michele & Tracy (Garry); grandchildren Nick (Laura), Fallon (Vince), Andrew (Kayla), William (Meressa), Damon & Kayla; great grandchildren Theo, Nile, Aria, Lawrence, Octavia & Alexander.

Dad was born in Portage la Prairie on December 17, 1937 and lived in St. Ambroise his entire life.  He received his education in St. Ambroise and was married to our mom Stella on November 16, 1957 in the St. Ambroise Roman Catholic Church, where he was also a life member.

Dad was a commercial fisherman, hunting guide and trapper for 60 years.  He also raised cattle and worked at the Delta Water Fowl Research Station as a carpenter for 35 years.  He had many interests including carving decoys which are displayed around the world.  Dad had a huge garden in which he spent countless hours tending.  He would generously share his vegetable harvest with everyone he knew.  Dad took great pride in maintaining an immaculate lawn and house.

Dad loved spending time with his family which included many summer vacations all over Western Canada and the United States.  Dad loved supporting his community and never missed an event.  He had many pets over the years which included cats, dogs and horses.

He was active in the fishing community as a board member of the Lake Manitoba Co-op Fisheries for 30 years and held the role of President for 20 years.

At an early age dad developed an incredible work ethic and love for the outdoors which he has passed on to his children.  Dad was well liked by everyone with his witty sense of humour.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Douglas Campbell Lodge for their kind an compassionate care of our dad.

Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at the St. Ambroise Roman Catholic Church at 11:00 am. Interment to follow in the parish cemetery.
