Alex Trost

October 9, 1922 — January 16, 2015

Aloys Xaver Trost  (Lally, Alex)

Peacefully, on Friday, January 16, 2015, Alex Trost passed away at the age of 92, with family by his side.

Left to mourn his passing are his wife Irene; his 4 children, Barbara Robson of Calgary, Alberta, Fred (Candie) Trost of St. Ambroise, Mantoba, Annabelle (Gordon) McMillan of Portage la Prairie and Brenda Trost of Portage la Prairie; as well as his 3 step-daughters, Darlene Monette, Kathy Hallow and Sharon Nikkel all of Winnipeg; along with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Dad was born on October 9, 1922 and raised in St. Ambroise, Manitoba.  Dad was first a farmer, a commercial fisherman, and a duck hunting guide but he also worked in construction and roofing, taking him all over Manitoba and Saskatchewan.  Two of the projects Dad was particularly proud to have worked on were the construction of the Richardson Building and the Grace Hospital, both in Winnipeg.

Dad loved hunting, trapping, snowmobiling, quading and gardening.  He always seemed to find something new and unusual to try his hand at growing, starting with a purple potato back in the 70’s.

Anyone who knew Dad at all, knew a visit to his home was going to include a game of crokinole, barouche, or dice and if you didn’t know how to play he would darn soon teach you.

Dad was a generous, strong and determined man.  A common response to us kids, when we thought we couldn’t do something was, “there is no such thing as can’t” and he would always find a way to accomplish whatever it was that needed to be done.

After a long and full life, we will miss our husband, dad, grandpa and great grandpa and are so thankful for the strength and courage he has instilled in each of us.

In keeping with dad’s wishes there will not be a service.  In lieu of flowers, friends may make a donation to a charity of their choice.

A tree will be planted in memory and cared for by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel.  204-857-4021 www.mckenziesportagefuneralchapel.com
