It is with great sadness to announce that on February 27, 2024 Alan Lightfoot passed away peacefully at home with family by his side at the age of 79 years.

Alan will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 12 years Donna Lynne of Portage la Prairie, daughter Alana Leigh Moore (Shane) of Penhold, AB, son David Lightfoot of Winnipeg, sister Jaynie Potocky (Tim) of Abbotsford, BC, granddaughters Kaitlan and Kirstyn Moore, great-grandchildren Eric and William, mother-in-law Grace Tufford, stepson Wayne Cleaver, sisters-in-law Linda Lightfoot, Sue (Bruce) Gudmundson and Jo Ann (Danny) Humiski, brothers-in-law Jim Henry, Gerry Denslow (Jackie), Norman Denslow (Joanne) and William Denslow (Kelly-Lynn), nephews Kevin, Kyle, Grant, Matthew, Kristopher, Stefan and R.J., nieces Kirstin, Carla Jane, Jana, Meaghan and Lauren, special friends Mike Arnott and Kathy Shute, along with many relatives and friends.

Alan was predeceased by his late wife Donna Leigh 1990, father James 1962, mother Margaret 1973, in-laws George 1966 and Doris Henry 2001, brother Michael Lightfoot 2020, nephew Gregory Potocky 2014 and brother-in-law Vern Henry 2022.

Alan was born and raised in Winnipeg Manitoba.  He attended Silver Heights Collegiate in St James where he met his first wife Donna Leigh.  In 1963 resulting from a dare Alan joined the Royal Canadian Air force where he proudly served for 30 years.  Alan was stationed in Southport Manitoba and in 1964 Alan and Donna were married in Brandon Manitoba and moved to CFB Kingston where he began his role in recruitment for the military as well as working at Kingston Park Raceway.  While in Kingston Alan and Donna welcomed daughter Alana Leigh in 1972 and their son David in 1979.

Alan returned to Southport in 1981 where he served in BAMEO and then in BADMO. Alan also began running the base bowling alley where Alan not only fell in love with the sport, he also became very involved with YBC, central Manitoba, Manitoba 5 pin association and Special Olympics.  Alan loved his sports and throughout the years he enjoyed playing many. His favorites being bowling, curling, softball, lacrosse, squash, and of course hockey.  Alan’s love for hockey and his Boston Bruins, and Winnipeg Jets helped in the building of his amazing collection of hockey memorabilia.

In 2010 Alan was blessed to find love again when meeting Donna Lynne to whom he married in 2011.  After retiring from military life Alan remained in Portage la Prairie and continued to be involved with bowling, the Portage Lions where over the years he held numerous positions including President of the den, and sat on several committees, and boards.

Celebration of Life will take place at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, June 25, 2024 at 1:00 pm, led by Amy Chappellaz.  Interment will follow at McKenzie Cemetery, High Bluff, MB.  The service will be livestreamed, to register and view, see below.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Alan’s name may be made to Portage Animal Welfare Society (PAWS), 121 12th St. NE, Portage la Prairie, MB, R1N 4A2 or to the charity of your choice.
