Alfred George Allanson

With great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Al Allanson on Monday, March 7, 2011, in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba at the age of 81 years.

Al leaves behind his beloved wife Margaret of Portage la Prairie; daughter Lois (Don) Duggan of Silver Ridge; son Murray (Sheila) Allanson of Winnipeg; stepgrandchildren Jim (Marcy) Duggan and Rick (Donna) Duggan and their families; sister Dorothy (Art) Devrieze of Austin, brother Gerry Allanson of Portage la Prairie and many nieces and nephews.

Al was born and raised in Portage la Prairie. He worked in plumbing and heating in Roblin, The Pas, Neepawa and returned to Portage to work at Southport until retiring in 1993. Al raced stock cars in his younger years. He also enjoyed bowling, golfing and being a member of gun clubs of trapshooting, pistol and black powder. Al was a real "Mr. Fixit". After retirement he got involved in woodworking of lawn ornaments and wall plaques. Al could be a bit of a stubborn at times but he always had a good sense of humor and will be missed by those who knew him.

Memorial Service will be held Friday, March 11, 2011 at 1:00 pm at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel led by Rev. Beth Kerr.

As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Al's memory to Portage Animal Welfare Society (PAWS), Box 1426, Portage la Prairie, MB, R1N 3N9.
