Peacefully on Tuesday, March 29th, 2016 at Portage District Hospital, Adriana Meulpolder passed away at the age of 83 years.

Adriana is predeceased by her beloved husband of 62 years Jan (John); parents Johannes and Pieternella van de Velde; brother Jaap van de Velde and sister Maria Lansdale.

Left to cherish her memory are her children; Debbie (Ron Scott) Verwey and John (Jacqueline) Meulpolder; grandchildren Steven (Tiffany) Verwey, "The Girls" Deanne (Travis) Foster, Jan (Luc Poulin) Verwey, Christine (Brad McLachlan) Verwey, Katerina Meulpolder and Adrien Meulpolder; great grandchildren Jordan, Tennyson, Mitchell, Elliot, Riley and Brooks all of MB, Canada; brother Joop (Pieta Koeman) van de Velde, sister-in-law Dinny van de Velde; brother-in-law Tony Lansdale; many nieces, nephews, cousins, all of Europe; and many dear friends near and far.

Born and raised in the Netherlands, Adriana and John married and moved to Canada in 1953, and soon after started their family.  Farming became their way of life from 1967-2007, when they retired to town. Lots of fond memories came in those 40 years on the farm. Family and friends were always welcome; and coffee and cookies were always ready.

Adriana was a loving and devoted wife, mother, Oma (to everyone) and great Oma. She spoke fondly of her favorite past times of bowling, dancing, Sunday drives and in her later years, her weekly hair appointments. Having friends and family over for dinner or just for a cup of coffee were her greatest joys. With a bright smile, a great sense of humour and an extremely outgoing personality, she brought joy to everyone around her.

A celebration of Adriana’s life will be held at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at 3:00 pm.  Interment will take place at the columbarium at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.

As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Adriana’s memory to the Sunset Palliative Care Inc, Box 92, Portage la Prairie, MB, R1N 3B2 or Central Plains Cancer Care Services, 318 Saskatchewan Ave. E., Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 0K8.
