Shelly Ferguson

April 27, 1957 — February 8, 2016

ShellyJoan Ferguson (nee McArthur)

On February 8, 2016 at the age of 58, in the comfort of her own home, in the care of her loved ones, Shelly peacefully left us to join her son Derek and her parents Peter and Maxine.

Left to celebrate her memory are her loving husband of 35 years Ted, daughter Kaley and son in-law Dave Doty, granddaughters Sharlin and Montana Doty, grandson Preston Doty, her Brothers; Tim (Bernie) McArthur, Darcy (Jane) McArthur, her sister Holly (Barrie) Troop, along with numerous nieces and nephews, mother in-law Olive Ferguson, sisters’ in-law; Ferne (John) Rankin and Cheryl Ferguson, as well as her many cherished friends.

Shelly graduated from PCI in 1975, and graduated from Assiniboine Community College in 1976 with a diploma in Cosmetology. She was employed in the hair industry for 21 years, for many of those years she proudly owned her own hair salon.

Shelly gracefully and tenaciously faced cancer multiple times over the past 18 years, with the same quiet determination she used in her everyday life. Shelly loved spending time with her family and friends: a good book, and camping. Her impeccable organizational skills enabled her to have the camper packed and ready to go at a moments notice. Some of her fondest memories happened around the camp fire.

Shelly embraced life, never complained, and appreciated everyone she knew. Her philosophy was to “be kind to others as we don’t know what struggles they may be facing”. In keeping her memory alive, please be kind to one another and pay it forward whenever possible.

A celebration of Shelly’s life will take place at William Glesby Centre on Saturday February 13, 2016 at 1:00 PM led by Colleen Flynn. A private family interment will take place at a later date.  As an expression of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Shelly’s memory to Westend Day care inc, 1825 Saskatchewan Ave W, Portage La Prairie, Manitoba, R1N OR6

“Thank you for everything you have done for us, as a wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. Rest easy. We love you forever”
