Salem Abraha

August 17, 1974 – May 18, 2013

It is with deep sadness that the family of SALEM ABRAHA announces his passing on Saturday May 18, 2013 with his wife by his side, after courageous battle with cancer.

He leaves behind his loving wife and partner of 5 years Gail McKenzie Abraha of Lethbridge, AB; mother Tsehai Abraha of Lethbridge, AB;  father Dr. Berhane Abraha of Toronto, ON; brother Lewi of Edmonton, AB; grandmother Hiwet of Seattle,WA and many aunts, uncles and cousins in both the United States and Ethiopia; father and mother-in-law Owen and Paula McKenzie of Portage la Prairie, MB;  brother-in-law Adam (Carie) McKenzie of Saskatoon, SK and the extended McKenzie and Chapman relatives in Alberta; as well as many friends across Canada and the globe that he made through his 38 year life journey.

Funeral will take place in Lethbridge, Alberta on Friday, May 24, 2013 with interment to follow in the Mountain View Cemetery.

Salem could strike up a conversation with anyone, in person or on the internet, and discuss or debate any topic presented – secular or Christian.  He was well read and enjoyed researching any thought or topic that was presented.   Salem loved his coffee strong, hot and sweet!  And he especially loved it when he could drink it in conversation with a friend.

Salem was a natural musician.  He could play keyboard, drums, lead and base guitar.  He shared his talent with many by playing in bands at church, in the local bar, on TV Miracle Channel fundraisers and at Promise Keepers conferences.  He encouraged young musicians and singers at church and in open mic gigs to develop and share their talents.  During his battle with cancer he accomplished his dream and cut his first CD “LIVE LONG WAIT HOPE”.

Though his life was short, Salem encouraged many to reach their potential and be the best they could be.  That gift of encouragement will be remembered and cherished.

It is not goodbye Salem; just meet up with you later.  Enjoy making music in Heaven.

Whether you knew Salem or not, you can honour his life lived by encouraging someone in your journey or give to an organization that encourages.

A tree will be planted in memory and cared for by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel.  204-857-4021 www.mckenziesportagefuneralchapel.com
